I have already posted on Owen Jones's Chavs: The Demonization of The Working Class (see here and here). Owen Jones claims in the strongest possible terms that there is still a class war going on, being consciously if not conspicuously fought by the middle and upper-middle political and media class. Working-class people have been de-humanized by the media, and political elite. Irksome when you meet someone younger than you, rousing a crowded room to cheers and whoops, but there we are. Owen Jones' Chavs is worth reading. In light of all those loony looters parading the streets with their freshly gleaned carpets and plasma TVs, I thought it might be appropriate to reconsider my ethnographical investigation into the Chav-Life. Two chapters stood out for me, the first being a discussion of the portrayal of chavs and working class people in general in the media and particularly on TV.
